What's Happening in Room 32?
The START and SIGNET students have been busy!
First graders to work on developing their creative thinking skills. We have learned about Sybil the Scientist. She uses observations (which she makes using her five senses) to help her to classify information. The students enjoyed our "mystery group" game when they had to guess the labels for the groups after I sorted them based on secret attributes. They used excellent observation skills to come up with possible answers.
Second graders have wrapped up The Case of the Broken Fishbowl! They used all of the information they collected regarding fingerprints, powder samples, and shoe size to narrow down our list of suspects and come up with one possible culprit. We wrote a letter explaining our reasoning and then used a code to decipher the message left at the crime scene. They had a great time working on this unit and were so proud to find out they cracked the case! We are now beginning our unit called Algebra: Into the Unknown. The students are looking forward to it!
Third graders have almost finished creating PowerPoints or Sway presentations to showcase all of the research they did on a country. They are adding details, proofreading, and getting them ready to present. They look forward to sharing them with families soon!
We will be starting our next unit, Math Quest, within the next week or two!
SIGNET students are continuing their work to find their "missing families" in our SOS Unit. Each team has received three clues from the CSI team regarding the whereabouts of their families. Most teams feel they are narrowing down the possible locations to one or two areas. They are getting close to finding them! They continue to work as a team on the research, PowerPoint, and literary magazine. We just started Level II in Hands on Equations. The students will begin working with inverses of numbers during this level. It will be great!
Please ask your students about their days in our class! I hope they are able to share some of the highlights with you!
